Public lecture on a topic “Thinking critically is …?”

On October 5, a public lecture on a topic “Thinking critically is …?” was held to support the Open University of Maidan crowdfunding campaign on biggggidea.com. The event took place in the office of Reanimation Package of Reforms.

There were 2 speakers on the lecture. Oleksiy Karachinsky is military psychologist, psychotherapist, co-founder of the back-settler theater (for people who have migrated from Donetsk and Lugansk – the territory of military operations), co-author of the course ” Introduction to Critical Thinking ” on VUM online. Yaroslav Yurchyshyn is a public person, expert in advocacy and anti-corruption, executive director of Transparency International Ukraine, co-chairman of the Coalition Council of the Reanimation Package of Reforms.

The lecture was attended by about 30 people. Yaroslav Yurchyshyn talked about the relation to corruption and the need of critical thinking in order to avoid mistakes in the perception of information. Oleksiy Karachinsky spoke about logical mistakes, their diversity and presented them in 4 main blocks. Each mistake has its own name and algorithm how to get into this trap. Oleksiy showed the audience how mistakes work in practice and how easy it is to make wrong conclusions without the critical thinking skills.

The large information flow from various media and the Internet is the main “weapon” used against us every day. The effectiveness of this “weapon” depends on how a person can think critically and can analyze the received information. Therefore, it is so important to train these skills. Join our course “Introduction to Critical Thinking”.
