The NGO OUM starts to work on the course about NATO. This topic was discussed at the briefing that was held February 6, 2020 at the Ukraine crisis media center. The course is designed for a wide range of people of all ages who want to learn about what the North Atlantic Treaty Organization is and what its role is in the modern world.
The start of the project coincides with the anniversary of the inclusion in the Constitution of Ukraine of the provision of the state’s course for full membership in the European Union and NATO.
The briefing was attended by Barbora Maronkova – Director of the NATO Information and Documentation Center in Ukraine, Anna Gopko – Member of Parliament of Ukraine of the 8th convocation, Ostap Stasov – Head of the civic education platform VUM online.
The course launch is scheduled for April. Registration for it is already open.
“Such initiatives are very important for Ukraine because the state’s aspirations for membership must be supported by its citizens. There is a need to continue to raise public awareness of NATO: why it is worth joining NATO, what it means for a country, what commitment Ukraine has, and how much it will cost. In the course, we try to answer all the basic questions”, – said Barbora Maronkova, Director of the NATO Information and Documentation Center in Ukraine.
“We have an annual NATO-Ukraine 2020 national program with an international, results-oriented methodology. This program is close to the NATO Membership Action Plan. I hope that this year we will see the implementation of the Security Service of Ukraine reform as an obligation under the national security law and all the legislative package necessary to receive the NATO Membership Action Plan”, -said Anna Gopko.
She also added that Ukraine’s engagement with NATO member states is very important, especially in the context of the militarization of the Black and Azov seas, where Russia continues to strengthen its military presence.
